Hello Everyone! We are now back in the swing of things from Holiday break, except now it's flu and cold season, and I've unfortunately gotten the latter, but I'm working through it as best I can. Bring on the Kleenex! In Library News, I just found out that we made over $900 on our book fair! Thank You all so much for all your help spreading the word, visiting us at B&N that day, and supporting us through your purchases. We are so blessed and grateful! We have also revamped and restarted our Rosie and Friends reader program. This collection of books was selected by a committee of librarians throughout the state as "Must- Reads" for YA readers. If you read at least 5 and pass our quizzes on them, you get invited to a movie party! If you get at least 10, you also get a $10 B&N gift card! If you read at least 15, you get a chance to go on a top-secret (not yet to be named) field trip for the day! So come on in and check out the titles- there is really something of every genre and for every person- even if you just read enough to come to the party. That's free food! A link to the list is below:
Okay, my last little bit for the day, I'm going to start doing a few videos to show you around the library and what awesome things you can already do here! I must share this video, though, as some awesome bad lip reading- it gets me through the day sometimes. Happy Monday!
Mr. Dossett I definitely think that this is one of my favorite times of year- I love the lights, getting presents, decorating my house and the library!
We have a tree up with All I Want for Christmas ornaments you can hang with your wish list on the tree.....stop by and check it out. The other great thing about Christmas is that you receive presents! The library got their Christmas present early! We have a TON of new books, so you should come check it out! I'm going to be posting a video review of one of our newly anticipated books Ashoka just in time for the new Rogue One movie! Speaking of Star Wars......for this month's programming, we not only have featured our selection of Star Wars books, we also have a scavenger hunt which is about to begin! There will be 15 BB-8's hidden throughout the library. Your goal is to find them based on clues about the characters of Star Wars and what books they might read if they were to come into our library. Each find wins an awesome prize from our Star Wars prize bucket! Come by the week of the 9th-16th to check it out. We are also ramping up for our BOOK FAIR! One week to go! We hope that you can come by and support us in this endeavor. It costs you nothing, but up to 20% of our sales from that day will support the SSHS media center. If you stop by, you can also make awesome book marks of Star Wars origami with our SSHS Key Club You can also shop online from the comfort of your own home from the 13th-20 of December, and we will also receive a portion of those funds! All you have to do is use our voucher number (which I will tag below). Thanks everyone for a great first half of the year. I hope to be back with pictures of our book fair successes, and a video review! Have a great week! Mrs. Dossett MoreHello Everyone! Sorry it's taken me a while to write back, but I have TONS of stuff to talk about today! First off, we have had a great program so far with our Harry Potter month! I'll be giving away two tickets tomorrow to see the Fantastic Beasts movie, and we've had some great drawings for our Fantastic Beasts contests! I'll be posting more pictures and our award winners next week. As we head into Thanksgiving, we start to prepare for our December program- which might be Star Wars. More to come very soon! Also, we are anxiously preparing for our book fair! We would love for anyone out there to support us at Barnes & Noble December 13-December 20th. All proceeds from this fair go to help us replenish our library with new and updated books! Please see the info below to show how you can help out! Feel free to share! My final tidbit for today is about stress relief. With the holidays coming up, and finals and all of your research papers/projects being due, sometimes you just need a break. Why don't you come to the library! We are going to have Christmas Puzzles, Adult Coloring Pages and Dot to Dot, all so you can take a little bit to relax- it makes you more productive! This will be going on all through Christmas.
Woo! Our library seems to be a buzz with action! And with that, I'm off to do more work. Do forget to stop by and say hi! Mrs. Dossett (notice the name change- I finally did it!) Hello Everyone!
So it's the day after Election Day, and I know we are all feeling a little election fatigue, but never fear- Thanksgiving is coming! However, do you feel like you want your voice to be heard? How about when that comes to your HS library? Well now, you will have chance to use your voice to make REAL change in the library. We are developing a teen library council, or TLC! This council will be designed to help determine what books get put into the new collection, what programs we have at the library, and how to make our library a better place! Soooo...are you interested? If so, send me an email through the contact link on the homepage, and I'll send you an application to get started ! Thanks Everyone! Talk to You Soon! Mrs. Dossett Hi Everyone! I hope that you had a safe and fun Halloween, and that you got lots of treats and not tricks! We have taken down the library Halloween decorations and moved onto November, which not only means turkey and Black Friday shopping, but also Fantastic Beasts! We have three contests going on right now at the library! 1. If you read the first three books and pass the quizzes, you get an awesome magical treat! 2. We have a drawing contest for whoever can create the most "Fantastic Beast"! Winners will get an awesome new coloring book and colored pencils! 3. We will have a super hard "How well do you know Harry Potter Quiz?" the week of November 14th-November 18th. Winners will receive a voucher for a ticket to go see a new movie! If you are a patron of our library, what other programs and books would you like to see? We have a survey on the homepage, but feel free to come by and see me in the Media Center or email me as well. We have one other super exciting piece of news.........WE ARE HAVING A BOOK FAIR! That's Right!!! Just in time for Christmas, we are partnering up with Barnes and Noble in Evansville. You have a week to shop online, but you will be able to come see us in store on December 13th from 2:30-6:30 to redeem vouchers so we get a portion of the profits! We will also be doing some AWESOME Star Wars Origami- so please some see us! More news and information on that to come very soon! Well, I think that's all for now. I'm off to go weed some old books so we can make way for some fabulous new books! See You Soon! Mrs. H Happy Friday Everyone! Well, Monday will be Halloween- I hope everything is finding something fun in this holiday! Our library is FULL of books on ghosts, vampires, witches, monsters, and all of the great characters that make up Halloween. Stop by and see what we've got! Also, I'm SUPER excited about our November program- Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find them! There will be fun activities regarding the movie, including a quiz to test your Harry Potter knowledge, an art contest, and challenge to be the first to read the first 3 Harry Potter books and pass the quizzes to get some awesome prizes! If you haven't seen the trailer- here's one for your enjoyment: Stop by the library or check out our "Events" page to get some more information!
Have a great weekend! Mrs. H Good Morning Everyone! I wanted to make you aware of an awesome program that I know some of my colleagues and students have done before- National Novel Writing Month, which starts November 1st. It's a challenge for students and adults to write an novel within a month's timeframe. Students have the ability to set their own word limits, and compete with other students for prizes! Ever wanted to be a writer, or write a book, but not know where to start? I highly recommend this program- just click the button below to find out more! Happy Writing Everyone!
